A szűkülő piacon az olyan prémium- illetve luxusmárkák tudták növelni eladásaikat, mint a BMW (+9,8 százalék), a Mercedes (+4,7 százalék), a Land Rover (+18,5 százalék), vagy a Jaguar (+21,5 százalék), miközben a Ford 25,5, a PSA-csoport 16,3, a FIAT 12,3, a Toyota-csoport 16,8, a továbbra is piacvezető VW-csoport pedig 5,2 százalékos csökkenést produkált. A Renault-csoportban a Dacia-eladások növekedése javította a képet, a kis szereplők közé számító Suzuki viszont közel 19 százalékos zuhanást mutatott fel, ami 10,3 ezer eladott kocsit jelentett.

BUDAPEST--Hungary's economy contracted by about 1.5% last year, but this year will bring a turnaround due to a recovery in investment and household consumption, Economy Minister Gyorgy Matolcsy said Thursday.

Mr. Matolcsy largely attributed the decline in Hungary's gross domestic product last year to a drought in the agricultural sector, but also cited other factors such as lower domestic consumption, a withdrawal of capital by the foreign owners of Hungarian retail banks, and a failure to use all available European Union development funds.

The minister made the comments in his regular review of books about the economy published in the political weekly, Heti Valasz.

Hungary's GDP shrank in the first nine months of last year and the central statistics office, KSH, will publish its first estimate for fourth-quarter GDP Feb. 14.

Industrial output fell 4% in the last quarter of 2012 from the previous quarter, the deepest quarterly decline since the corresponding quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009, when the global financial crisis was at its peak, the KSH said earlier Thursday.

However, Mr. Matolcsy said Hungary's economy would stage a recovery this year due to increases in car manufacturing output at several automobile makers with plants in Hungary, such as Germany's Audi AG (>> Audi AG) and Daimler AG (>> Daimler AG).

A better use of EU development money will also support the recovery, he said. Household consumption should also rise as government cuts in utility prices will lead to an increase in disposable incomes, he added. Lending, which has been anemic, will also pick up, Mr. Matolcsy projected.

The government forecasts that GDP will expand 0.9% this year. Most economists expect the economy will shrink slightly more, or stagnate with growth levels close to zero this year.
