Notable Company Short Positions:

EP Energy (EPE, $4.74, Buy) – the company not only remained the most shorted name in our group but the total short position continued to increase to 48% from 46%. However, the days to cover the short position actually declined slightly as daily trading volume continued to increase.

Chesapeake Energy (CHK, $4.45, Buy) – remained the second most shorts name and like EP Energy, increased the past two weeks by 4% putting Chesapeake over 42%. Also like EP Energy, days to cover actually fell despite the increase in short interest.

Newfield Exploration (NFX, $33.09, Neutral) – Newfield saw the second largest increase (~25%) in short position the past two weeks though the overall short position still remains very low at just over 5%. Days to cover the shorts also remains very low at just over 2 days.

EQT Corp (EQT, $51.94, Buy) – The company saw the biggest two week increase in short position climbing ~53% during the period though the overall short position remains extremely low at just 4.4%.

Gulfport Energy (GPOR, $24.08, Buy) – Gulfport remains the least shorted name in our coverage group at just ~2.8% of float. While the strong balance sheet is likely the top contributor to the low ratio, we are a bit surprised at how low the total is given the gassy nature and how much the shares have fallen in past weeks.
