Tesla Motors Inc. TSLA +12.23% reported late Wednesday a second-quarter loss of $30.5 million, or 26 cents a share, compared with a year-ago loss of $105.6 million, or $1.00 a share. Adjusted to exclude one-time items, Tesla's second-quarter profit rose to 20 cents a share. Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 surged to $405.1 million from $26.7 million. Analysts polled by FactSet, who cite adjusted earnings, had expected the electric car maker to post a loss of 19 cents a share on $386.9 million in sales.
