Two things I wonder about this article,

First, why edit Musk's comment down to exclude his choosing to rephrase what you did quote to clarify that he thinks the stock is at a good price for a long term investment?

here's Musk's comment, what you quoted, and how he immediately clarified it,

“think our stock price is kind of high right now to be totally honest or rather to put it this way if you care about the long term tesla i think the stock is a good price, if you look at the short term it’s less clear.”

Second point, investors agreeing with him would mean buying or holding the stock. Those that are selling the stock are trading... they saw the stock on a run, and wanted to trade to take advantage of it. Musk said the short term is less clear, so the traders who do not care about the long term got scared off. Investors concerned about the long term were given an encouraging statement from the CEO. One is best off doing their own due diligence, but a CEO who thinks the stock is attractively priced for the long term is a good thing for investors.
